Privacy Policy

Terms and Usage
NoteVault is a private, local-first notes app designed to keep your sensitive notes on your device. This page explains how NoteVault handles your data and the rules that apply when you use the app.
Introduction

This Privacy Policy applies to the NoteVault mobile and web application developed by Mikael Tenshio. NoteVault is built to help you store personal notes locally on your device and protect access to them with a PIN.

By using NoteVault, you agree to the practices described on this page. If you do not agree, please stop using the app.

Data Collection

NoteVault is designed to collect only the data needed for its core functionality.

  • Your note titles, note content, note colors, and pinned status
  • Your vault preferences such as sorting, preview visibility, and auto-lock
  • Security metadata needed to protect the vault, including a hashed PIN, salt, configured PIN length, failed unlock count, and last unlock time

NoteVault does not intentionally collect your contacts, photos, precise location, microphone data, or camera data for its note-taking features.

The app also uses Firebase Analytics to process limited technical and usage information that helps improve stability, performance, and feature quality.

Anonymous analytics data may include

  • App usage events such as screen views and feature interactions
  • Device model, operating system version, and app version
  • General diagnostics and app performance information

Your note titles, note content, and vault PIN are not intended to be used for analytics purposes.

Storage and Security

Your notes, settings, and security information are stored locally on your device. Your PIN is not stored as plain text. Instead, NoteVault stores a salted hash of your PIN.

NoteVault is designed for practical privacy and local control. However, it does not claim full encrypted-at-rest protection beyond the security features explicitly built into the app.

NoteVault is not designed to send your note titles, note content, or plain-text PIN through Firebase Analytics. Analytics is limited to technical and usage information.

Permissions Used

NoteVault's core features are intended to work without requesting access to sensitive device permissions such as contacts, location, camera, or microphone.

Depending on platform requirements, system-level storage or app lifecycle access may be used so the app can save local notes and auto-lock when the app leaves the foreground.

An internet connection may also be used to transmit limited technical and usage data to Firebase Analytics. NoteVault does not request sensitive runtime permissions for this analytics functionality.

Data Retention and Deletion

You remain in control of your data stored in NoteVault.

  • You can delete individual notes inside the app
  • You can clear all local vault data from the app settings
  • You can remove the app from your device to erase locally stored app data

Because NoteVault is local-first and does not provide account-based cloud recovery, deleted data may not be recoverable once it has been removed from the device.

Anonymous analytics data collected through Firebase Analytics is processed according to Google's retention and data handling practices. Uninstalling NoteVault stops future analytics collection from that installation, but previously collected Analytics data already processed by Google may remain subject to Google's retention schedules.

Third-Party Services

NoteVault does not intentionally upload your notes or PIN data to developer-managed servers for its core functionality.

NoteVault uses the following third-party service:

  • Firebase Analytics - Anonymous usage analytics and performance insights

Firebase Analytics may collect technical and usage data as described in its own privacy policy to help monitor app usage trends and improve the app.

If you download the app from an app store, use it in a browser, or rely on platform services, those platforms may process technical data under their own terms and privacy policies.
